Mutambara Agriculture Projects

On the mountainous eastern border with Mozambique, lies Mutambara. With its lush vegetation, rich red soil and consistent, ample water supply, thanks to a canal irrigation system constructed a 100 years before, farmers in the area reap excellent harvests with the support of Hear Africa’s agriculture program. An example of sustainable agriculture innovation was the establishment of ground-nut crops in the community.

Mutambara is also home to Ghune School. In 2015 with funding from Hear Africa, the school opened a new building, with a modern computer lab. In this community of Mutambara are two amazing and entrepreneurial women with inspiring stories. Sophirina Sign and the late Jean Mangudya have taken orphans into their homes, and with the support of Hear Africa for school fees and groceries, are providing nurturing environments. A Hear Africa success story and a model for future micro-finance investments was Jean’s butchery, established in 2014 and continues today by her family.
